Duffield honors veterans with special tribute

On Nov. 7, students at Helen B. Duffield Elementary gathered for the school’s annual flag-raising ceremony led by band teacher Suzanne Sommerhalter. Fifth graders served as the Color Guard, raising the flag with Principal Callan Lonergan and veteran and head custodian William Goodwin.
Third grade students read poems honoring veterans and the armed forces. The advanced band, orchestra and chorus, directed by Ms. Sommerhalter, Michael Innace and Jennifer DeStio, performed patriotic selections including “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “My Country ’Tis of Thee,” “Yankee Doodle” and “God Bless America.”
