Duffield students encouraged to have a “piglet mindset” during special assembly

Duffield Elementary School welcomed the Piglet Mindset Educational Program on Feb. 11, offering students an inspiring message about resilience and inclusion.
Piglet, a double dapple Dachshund-Chihuahua mix born with congenital ear and eye defects that make him deaf and blind, serves as the heart of the program. The Piglet Mindset Educational Program teaches students how to face challenges with a positive attitude while showing empathy and kindness to others.
The assemblies featured a short PowerPoint presentation led by veterinarian Melissa Shapiro, followed by a live tap-signal demonstration with Piglet and his deafblind brother, Georgie. Each assembly concluded with a brief question-and-answer session. Students received Piglet stickers and a Piglet and Georgie Kindness Club membership card, and teachers were given a copy of the children’s book “Piglet Comes Home” along with two Piglet posters for their classrooms.
To extend the message beyond the assembly, the school displayed a bulletin board explaining what it means to have a “piglet mindset.” Furthermore, a “Fur-ever Kind” bulletin board featured paw prints signed by each class as a pledge to be “fur-ever” kind.
